In recognition of Suicide Awareness Month, Valley Cities Behavioral Health Care invites community members to a Coffee Chat in Federal Way on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at 33405 8th Ave S.

The gathering will focus on education, understanding and prevention, bringing together local voices dedicated to saving lives and building a stronger, more connected community.

The event will feature a panel of experts, including Valley Cities clinicians and crisis response professionals, who will share their knowledge on warning signs, risk factors and practical ways to support someone in need. Attendees will also learn about resources available in Federal Way and across King County, ensuring no one has to navigate challenges alone.

Presenters include:

  • Teri Hardy, MBA, SUDP, MHP, Director of Recovery Place Kent (RPS)
  • Deborah Mulein, Program Manager
  • Officer Sarah Montjoy, School Resource Officer, Federal Way Police Department

The morning will begin with sign-in and introductions, followed by a discussion and Q&A session, giving participants the opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with experts.

Valley Cities is committed to approaching suicide prevention with compassion, professionalism and evidence-based strategies. Since 2022, the organization has partnered with King County to integrate a Zero Suicide Framework into all its programs, with the goal of reducing suicide deaths amongst individuals in their care.

“At Valley Cities, we believe conversations like this are a powerful first step in building understanding,” says Payton Standfill, Marketing Specialist at Valley Cities. “It’s about creating a space where people feel safe, connected and reminded that they don’t have to carry things on their own.”

This Coffee Chat is a chance for the community to unite, reduce stigma and encourage open, honest dialogue about mental health. Valley Cities welcomes all residents, families and community partners to join them for this important conversation. Together, we can build a stronger, more supportive future where hope is within reach for everyone.
