As seen in Seattle Weekly.
Since 2017, Recovery Place Seattle has provided science-backed care and treatment for substance use disorders to residents and community members from Seattle and the surrounding areas.
With the ongoing fentanyl crisis facing communities across the country, access to effective, compassionate treatment solutions has never been more important.
“Our primary goal is always long-term recovery management, whether that looks like relapse prevention, sober housing, primary care, or outpatient care after our services. We use evidence-based services and treatments intended to support individuals on a case-by-case basis,” says Vicki Brinigar, Director of Valley Cities, Recovery Place Seattle.
Recovery Place offers a variety of services, but two in particular – Voluntary Withdrawal Management and Residential Treatment – play a key role in helping those struggling with substance use disorders.
Voluntary Medically Supervised Withdrawal Management
Recovery Place offers 24-hour, fully licensed and accredited medical detox, seven days a week, on a walk-in basis for adults. This safe, supervised environment provides individuals with access to primary care, low-barrier Suboxone induction or Vivitrol shots, and support while they are experiencing acute withdrawal.
The program also provides individuals with the opportunity to transition into residential treatment after detox, within the same facility, and a wide array of support services to provide the best chance of recovery.
“Our voluntary medical withdrawal management program acts as a low-barrier access point for individuals to safely detox before taking their next steps towards recovery. We are now accepting walk-in referrals 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, including holidays and weekends to reduce barriers to our services for the communityWe work closely with our amazing MATCH (Medication-Assisted Treatment & Community Health) Team within RPS to get our patients medicated support when needed,” Brinigar says. Clients are encouraged to stay engaged with the MATCH Team even after leaving RPS.
“We also encourage everyone who enters our program to continue on to our residential treatment program if they qualify medically. Withdrawal Management takes between three and six days, on average. Fentanyl can prolong this process, as it takes longer for the body to clear it than most other substances.Regardless of whether they join the Residential Treatment Program or not, individuals are provided with support from discharge planners to develop a long-term recovery plan outside of RPS.”
Residential Treatment
Residential Treatment lasts, on average, 28 days. Once enrolled in the program, individuals have support to coordinate safe and sober housing, engage in individualized treatment planning, attend group and individual therapy appointments, gain access to self-help resources and panels in-house, and receive case management and discharge planning. As they are preparing to graduate from the program, they receive referral to outpatient support for substance use disorders, mental health and trauma-informed counseling, community resources, support groups, and when needed, medicated-assisted therapy options through programs like MATCH.
This careful, thought-out approach to discharging patients with as much support as possible is part of Valley Cities’ approach to helping individuals achieve and sustain long-term recovery success.
“Substance use recovery is a life-long endeavor that requires both dedication from the individuals and easy access to community programs and services designed with their needs in mind,” Brinigar says.
“Those leaving our residential treatment program are provided with as many tools and support services as possible, bettering their chances at continuing to overcome their struggles with addiction.”
